In 1984 Dr. Arthur Tom Horvath established a general clinical psychology practice in San Diego. In 1985 he began specializing in addiction treatment, and affiliated with New Horizons, a multi-state addiction treatment network. In 1990 the New Horizons network disbanded, but Dr. Horvath continued the specialization, as well as his general practice. In 1991 Dr. Horvath became a Co-Director of the Center for Cognitive Therapy, La Jolla, joining Drs. Craig Wiese and Brenda Johnson. In 1998, with the publication of Sex, Drugs, Gambling & Chocolate: A Workbook for Overcoming Addictions, the New Horizons name was replaced by Practical Recovery Services (PRS). PRS was by then providing its intensive program to clients from across the nation, having grown to a staff of five clinicians.
As PRS grew in the late 90’s and early 2000’s it became clear that Pyrysys needed to develop other services, to span the broad range of human service needs our clients were presenting to us. We also created an overall name, Pyrysys Psychology Group, Inc., for our integrated set of services.
As of 2004 we have relocated to new offices, with a clinical staff of over 10 psychologists and counselors, and affiliate providers in over a dozen specialties. In addition to continuing our original focuses on general practice behavioral and emotional problems, and addictive behavior, we have added specialized clinical services, and educational and consulting services. We will continue to evolve services and programs to meet the needs of individuals who are eager to take advantage of the latest and best that behavioral science has to offer. |
