Relationship Therapy for Families

Stephen Scherer, Ed.D., Director

We understand that learning how to establish harmonious parent-child relationships takes effort and skill. Relationship Therapy for Families (RFT) is a workshop series aimed at improving your skills as a family member, to help you and those you love live happy and productive lives. The strength of RTF is its reliance on well-established psychological principles that allow parents and family members to operate from within a consistent framework of understanding. By completing the RTF workshop series you will learn these principles and how to apply them in your own home.

Three central skill sets are emphasized within the RTF workshop series. The first skill set is that of increasing the overall number of enjoyable parent-child interactions that occur within the family setting. The second skill set is that of learning to ignore problematic or inconsequential behavior. The final skill set is that of teaching children how to behave appropriately. Each of these themes is addressed in considerable depth, with examples and in a supportive group setting led by Dr. Stephen Scherer, a licensed psychologist with training in Behavior Analysis.
